State Aid
Cuts
Mean Cuts to Local Services
We've all heard it before: State
aid
to Wayland has decreased,
and it continues to decrease due to the economic constraints at
the state level.
How much
State Aid have we lost in recent years?
Our town budget
has suffered from lower state aid since 2003-2004, when there
was a $1 million decrease. Since then, despite modest
increases in 2007, state aid has not returned to its pre-2003 levels.
This winter we have all
become acquainted with the state's fiscal situation and its need
to cut state aid to all Massachusetts towns and cities. We are
not alone. But that doesn't make it any easier to balance the
budget and maintain our core services.
According to the Governor's
preliminary budget for FY10, state aid
to Wayland is likely to decrease by $350,000.

Learn about
Suburban Coalition:
The Suburban Coalition
was founded in the mid 1980's by local officials to
provide input to the state about local services, state
funding and state regulations. By banding together,
these communities can address mutual problems more
effectively at the state level. The Coalition is
bipartisan and does not support parties or individual
candidates. The Coalition is dedicated to the idea that
excellent educational and municipal services and
facilities, coupled with sound fiscal management, are
the right of every citizen in the Commonwealth.
